Dr. Sari Haryanti, MSc, APT from the Center for Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine Tawangmangu found a suitable plant to prevent heart damage while killing cancer cells safely.
"The combination of bark extract and awar-awar leaves can increase the potential of killing cancer cells, especially breast cancer cells, yes, because I did the second study by looking at its effects on malignant breast cancer cells," Sari said on the sidelines of the event "Parade Doctor" National Health Day 2017 at the Ministry of Health Jakarta.
This combination of logs and awar-awar leaves is not only effective in killing breast cancer cells, but also effectively inhibits the spread of cancer cells.
"Secang and leaves awar-awar this so a combination of good therapy for breast cancer patients," explained Sari.
Between drugs and herbs
Although herbal plants are very good for cancer patients, Sari said, chemotherapy patients will be given doxorubicin also a combination of secang extract and awar-awar leaves for treatment of breast cancer therapy.
Doxorubicin is an antibiotic used in chemotherapy to treat various forms of cancer.
Unfortunately, chemotherapy using doxorubicin has dangerous side effects. The longer the heart gets damaged. And heart function does not work well to pump blood.
On the other hand, research related to extract secang and leaves awar-awar can kill other cancer cells also need to be investigated further.
"Other forms of cancer are different, so how to kill cancer cells may be different," Dr. Sari said.
